Anthony Lazzaro has already accomplished the goal of several of his fellow Primal Racing instructors when he suited up for the 24 Hours of Le Mans, the pinnacle of sportscar racing, in 2003 guiding his Ferrari 360 Modena GT to a top-10 class finish.
In the two years prior to his trip to Le Mans, Lazzaro drove for Sam Schmidt Motorsports in the IndyCar Series bringing home two top-10 finishes for the team. Lazzaro has also found success in the NASCAR Cup Series making two starts at Watkins Glen.
The American driver got his start winning numerous World Karting Association championships between 1987 and 1992. Lazzaro parlayed that success into his open-wheel debut in the Olds Pro Series winning four races, including two at Road Atlanta, along with multiple podium finishes.
In 1995, Lazzaro won the Hooters Formula Cup championship with six wins and nine poles over the 14-race season. Lazzaro then moved to the Toyota Atlantic Series winning nine total races culminating in the 1999 Toyota Atlantic championship.
After multiple open-wheel championships, Lazzaro made the move to stockcars. He debuted at Talladega Superspeedway in the ARCA Series before making 10 starts in the NASCAR Busch Series and one start in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series the following year.
Lazzaro has raced in just about every discipline out there but sportscar racing has always been his bread and butter. His sportscar career has spanned nearly 20 years and includes a GT3 class win in the 24 Hours of Daytona. In total, the South Carolina native has achieved seven wins in the SP2 class, 10 podiums in the GT class including one win and three podiums in the LMP2 class to round out his American Le Mans Series resume thus far.
